NRL Teams joining Reclaim The Game a fantastic first step, but what about poker machines?
6 Mar 2022
The Alliance is today congratulating the move by the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs in joining Reclaim the Game. But now we need them to take the logical next step and divest from the poker machines in their clubs which inflict untold harm on the very communities they represent.
Tim Costello, the Chief Advocate for the Alliance says:
“We want to congratulate the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs for joining Reclaim the Game and recognising the harm caused by the gambling industry in communities across NSW.”
“This is a huge win in the campaign to reduce gambling harm and the Office for Responsible Gambling has played a key role in securing it.”
“The Bulldogs and Rabbitohs join other high profile teams from four other codes in rejecting sportsbetting sponsorship. More and more we’re seeing clubs catching up to public sentiment and recognising the devastating effects that gambling has on the communities they represent.”
“But now we need them to take the next logical step and act on the harm caused by poker machines in their clubs.”
“Every year in NSW millions of dollars are lost to poker machines in clubs associated with the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs. It’s high time they follow the lead of Victorian AFL clubs who have divested from these machines.”
