Alliance for Gambling Reform appoints new chief executive Sunita Bose

The Alliance for Gambling Reform (AGR) today announced Sunita Bose as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Ms Bose brings twenty years of advocacy leadership to the role. Ms Bose was most recently Managing Director of the Digital Industry Group (DIGI), Australia’s peak digital industry body, shaping regulatory reform in online harms, data and consumer protection. She previously served as Head of Global Policy at Change.org, the world’s largest grassroots petition platform, and earlier in her career worked at international aid agencies Oxfam and UNICEF.
The appointment follows the decision by outgoing CEO, Martin Thomas to stand down due to family reasons. AGR Chair Angela Tillmanns thanked Mr Thomas for his contribution, saying he had left the organisation in a much stronger position.
On the appointment of Sunita Bose, Ms Tillmanns said: “Sunita Bose is an outstanding leader and the AGR Board is delighted to welcome her as our next Chief Executive Officer. Her appointment reflects our determination to bring the sharpest possible strategic and advocacy thinking to the fight against gambling harm.”
“Sunita brings deep industry and regulatory expertise, the ability to build coalitions and drive legislative change — exactly what this growing movement to protect Australian families from gambling harm demands at this moment,” Ms Tillmanns said.
Ms Bose said she was excited to work alongside the AGR team including its Chief Advocate Tim Costello, to build on the legacy of the organisation he founded, at a time of enormous community and political concern about gambling harm.
“Australia has the highest gambling losses per person in the world, far exceeding the US and other countries. The ripple effects are devastating — domestic violence, family and relationship breakdown, unemployment, health and mental health challenges and crime.
“An alliance of organisations has been sounding the alarm on these effects for decades; I'm inspired by the prospect of working with them and the Alliance for Gambling Reform team to influence such a high-impact issue at an inflection point for reform,” Ms Bose said.
Ms Bose will begin in the role on Monday 24 August 2026.
